03-Balky_Mule_Windup.jpgNick151 viewsNick - This is a great example of the "Balky Mule" tin toy wind up made by the Ferdinand Strauss toy company in New York between 1919-21. Made during the time that Louis Marx worked as their production Manager. This is all American - made in the USA - not one of the many German-made Strauss Toys. VERY - VERY - SCARCE! I totally tore it down and re-worked it. Now it's dang near perfect - a great, working toy. You may have noticed that my repairs include making new legs and ears. In re-mounting driver I used a Marx train coal tender body for the tin. So the metal is the same brand and vintage. lehmansterms
