08-12.07.08_S02~0.jpgLot # 8104 viewsShay - Thrace/Black Sea - Pantakapaion, 4th Cent. BC. AE20. Head of young Pan left / roaring lion's head left, prawn below. Unusual two-die set C/M: Star and uncertain object (bowcase?) on Rx. Host coin: Cf. SNG BMC Black Sea 883. $10 Start, S&H $2 US, $3 OS - lehmansterms@comcast.net
All examples on wildwinds of this host coin sold in excess of $100, one for over $200
C/M's struck between a pair of dies to yield designs on both sides are very unusual, although the star on the Obv is seen often on coins of Pantakapaion, I had never seen another example with this object (I must assume it's a bowcase) on the reverse.
Checking Coinarchives, I find a specimen of the same host-coin with the same 2-sided C/M which recently sold for $157 US.
