Paul 6 - Gratian (367-383 AD) GLORIA NOVI SAECVLI AE-3 - This reverse type is unique to Emperor Gratian and was only struck at the Arles mint. The reverse Latin legend proclaims the "glorious new age" to be brought forth by Gratian. It didn't happen. He was assassinated in 383 during the revolt led by Magnus Maximus. The unique form of legend on the obverse D N GRATIANVS AVGG AVG Gratian "Augustus Augustorum", or "Emperor of Emperors". Rx: GLORIA NOVI SAECVLI (18 mm. & 2.2 grams, RIC, IX, 15).
